LOGAN Temple Continues its Legacy by Building Housing for A Bright Future
SAN DIEGO – When Virgil Ward was appointed as the new Pastor of Logan Temple AME Zion Church in September of 2018, he made it his mission to ensure that the historical church would find new ways to serve its local community. Now, Pastor Ward is fulfilling his charge to God and his denomination by building housing for the people.
At sub-market rents, these high-quality residences are being designed by award-winning architecture firm 64North. The project will not only benefit the neighborhood, but will also help sustain the church financially, ensuring the church has a future as bright as its past.
“We’re excited about our new family-focused development, and in honor of LOGAN Temple’s amazing history of service in this community, we are naming it, “Legacy Place.”
With Pastor Ward’s significant experience as a general contractor and builder, he partnered with Martin Porter and his team at LOGOS Faith Development LLC to develop new, ground-up townhome-style homes for rent to local, work-force families in the community who are often being priced out of the area due to the relentless rise of rental rates.
Together, LOGAN, Pastor Ward, and LOGOS have teamed up to build 11+ 3- and 4-bedroom family style homes and expect to begin construction soon.
On Friday May 20th to Sunday May 22nd, LOGAN Temple will be hosting three days of events to highlight the upcoming development project, and its plans to serve the community through its Community Development Corporation.
On Saturday May 21st at 11AM, Logan Temple AME will be hosting various City officials and dignitaries, such as the Mayor and Councilwoman Vivian Moreno, alongside the project’s development team LOGOS and architectural team, 64North. All are welcome!
